Penny French-Deal

I grew up on a farm in Wabash County, Indiana.  The beauty of the countryside provided an excellent foundation for which to build a collection of memories that echo in my paintings.   My husband, Joe, and I live in North Manchester and enjoy spending time with our family, all of whom live close by.  It is through the encouragement of my husband, chidlren and friends that I am provided this opportunity to pursue my dreams.

It has only been in the past six years that I have competed in art shows. I have had the honor of winning various awards including the 2008 Celectrating Hoosier Women Artists award sponsored by Lt. Governor Becky Skillman.  I have also been selected for the upcoming publication Hoosier Painters of the 21st Century, Vol. 2 authored by Mark Butterfield. Recent commissions were featured in the Summit County Parade of Homes, Breckenridge, Colorado. 

One would not classify my work as a literal statement of the subject; rather it is an impressionistic interpretation giving freedom for the viewer to feel the passion translating from the artist to the painting. Working primarily in oils painted on linen, I tend to use vibrant, warm colors. I like the challenge provided by studying and painting different subject matter.

I value the influence of art on humanity. To allow oneself to dwell on the interpretation of a piece of art is not be a mere escape from the frenzied world, but a place to find solace, or memories of times gone by, or the energy from the splash of color.

I hope that to those who view my art, I can provide a little comfort, a sudden burst of energy or bring back a memory that touches one's heart.

It is such a pleasure to view the world through the eyes of an artist. I shall always enjoy the brilliance of the sunsets, the whisper of the wind and the majesty of the earth.
